why so serious?

There are a couple things I've noticed lately in the world of fanfiction that sort of irk me.

In general: When people begin their fics with something like "I suck at writing." Personally, I'm a little hesitant to read things by people who begin with "This is my first time writing such and such" and extremely nervous at "first fics" and people who deem it the reader's duty to 'be gentle because it's their first time.' It's not sex, and the harsher people are in the beginning, the quicker one knows how to not screw up and be out of character. I don't like being asked to let OOCness slide, so I normally avoid fics that say things like that. When people say, "I suck at writing," it doesn't make me want to be lenient-- it makes me watch out fearfully for any suckishness if I end up reading it. I really wish people wouldn't do that.

Specifically Hetalia: In one of my SuFin fics, I got a smidgen of bad reception from a particular reviewer who is terribly opposed to Finland calling Sweden "Su-san" when not in the comic. I know others must have the same irk, because I've seen alternate nicknames for Sweden, like "Su-Su" (admittedly adorable). I understand full-well that Finland isn't Japanese, and he probably shouldn't use that honorific in English fanfiction. But then, what are we to do with Hanatamago? Finland isn't Japanese, so if I'm writing English fanfiction, shouldn't people be irritated that she's not called Floweregg? Or, in Finnish, Kukkamuna? And let's not forget, Sweden would have to call her Blommaägg. It's okay for Finland to have a Japanese-named dog, but not for him to call Sweden his practically trademarked Su-san? It just doesn't seem right to me.

herein lies crack of massive Lithuanian proportions

Kidnapped this from Spazzkitty. Oh my gosh, it was fun. So much crack!

Name twelve of your favourite Axis Powers Hetalia characters in any order.

1) Sweden

2) America

3) England

4) Finland

5) Seychelles

6) Belarus

7) Lithuania

8) Hungary

9) Austria

10) Germany

11) Poland

12) China

1) Have you read a five/ten fic before?

Germany/Seychelles? Has anyone? XD

2) Do you think three is hot? How hot?

Oh baby. So hot, I could fry an egg in his shadow.

3) What would happen if six got one pregnant?

If Belarus got Sweden pregnant, I think I'd die laughing hysterically. A battle between Belarus and Finland would be epic, though... I can't even imagine who'd win.

4) Do you recall any good fics about nine?

I do. All of them are on the kink meme under Austria/Hungary.

5) Would seven and two make a good couple?

Certainly they are good friends, but I think they share too much romantic potential with other people (cough England and Poland cough) to be amorously entangled. They seem like good, refreshing vacations for each other, though, and it's enjoyable to watch them together.

6) Four/eight or four/nine?

Four/eight. Hungary would coddle Finland to death because he's such a cutie, but in the end, she'd enjoy it much more if he was with Sweden and would push them into romantic/embarrassing/fangirl situations.

7) What would happen if seven discovered three and eight in a secret relationship?

Lithuania discovering an England/Hungary tryst, hm? I think it would be in his nature to keep his mouth shut about it, but his loyalty to America would maybe prompt him to entice America out of favoring England.

8) Make a summary of at least twenty words for a two/six fic.

America/Belarus. "I've come to avenge my brother for the Cold War," she said shortly, pressing the cool steel of the blade against the flesh of his throat. America, never one to keep his mouth shut, twisted his lips into a grin. "Knifeplay, huh? Kinky."

9). Is there such a thing as a four/ten romantic fluff story?

... Not that I can imagine. I'm fairly certain that Germany would fail to frighten Finland (after years with Sweden and his facial expressions, Germany = fluffy bunny, y/y?), but the only thing I can think of close to "fluff" with Finland and Germany is Germany being pleased at how compliant and battle-ready Finland is. Appreciative fluff?

10) Suggest a title for a one/five Hurt/Comfort fic.

"Fishes and Wishes"

Kind of screwing around with the phrase "if wishes were fishes." I don't know... maybe Sweden and Seychelles being able to relate with one another by way of hopeful love? Sweden loves Finland with all of his heart and wants that love to be recognized while unwilling to rush his 'wife' while Seychelles harbors the secret wish to be acknowledged by France someone? Hopeful love buddies.

11. What kind of plot would you use for a three/eleven fic?

England coming to terms with his gayness with a little help from Poland, king of the fruits. It would, of course, be titled, "The Poof."

12. Does anyone on your friends list read number seven het? What about nine slash?

I'm sure someone supports Lithuania/Belarus. I sort of do.
Probably. I think Austria is interesting-- he's one of the most gay characters in Hetalia, but he's so... straight. It's brilliant.

13. If you wrote a songfic about number nine, what song would you chose?

Frou Frou's 'Old Piano'. There are really only five lines, and to me it could express his feelings about playing the piano.

14. If you wrote a two/three/six fic, what would the warning be?

"America/England/Belarus. Bloodplay, BDSM, rape(?); was kicked out of the kink meme for this."

15. What pick-up line might eight use on five?

"Would you like to come visit my place? I've got a splendid collection of homoerotica."

16. Challenge: Write a drabblefic for ten/eight.

She peeked in on him, her housewife radar blaring, and sure enough he stood in front of her full-length mirror, frowning at the maroon tie in his hands. Hungary knocked lightly at the door and stepped in. "Need some help?"

Germany turned, an embarrassed flush on his cheeks. "Nein. I can take care of this."

"Don't be silly," Hungary tutted, stepping closer to the boy and taking his tie. "This is your first appearance at a world meeting. You've just become a federal nation, and you don't want to give a bad impression, do you?" She looped the material around his neck and began tying it properly. He could not argue, and remained silent. Hungary tightened the tie and smoothed it down into his suit, taking a moment after to place her hands firmly on his shoulders and look into his eyes. "As long as I have known you, I have been so proud. Watching you for these last four years has been a pleasure. You're such a good boy." Hungary touched his face and smiled. "I am so proud. Be that as it may, grow quickly, so that I may look up at you instead of down."

Germany watched Austria's wife grin, and could not help but offer a tiny smile in return.

"Sorgen Sie nicht machen. Even my military will one day surpass yours."

Hungary chuckled, patting the young nation on the head. "We shall see, Németország. I look forward to fighting with you one day."

"With?" Germany inquired. Hungary laughed it off, waving a hand.

"Beside you, of course, not against."

(Note: Germany became a federal nation-state in 1871. The Austro-Hungarian Empire lasted from 1867-1918.)

17) What would happen if Seven walked in on Two and Twelve having sex?

(I feel sorry for Lithuania, stumbling upon all of these affairs.) Well... his whole England/Hungary crisis could be avoided then, yes?

18) What kind of plot would you use if you wanted Four to de-flower One?

Hardcore seduction, of course. "Ah, S-Sweden, can I put it there?" We all know that, deep down, Finland is a little slut. Just like Italy!

19) Does anyone on your friends list read Seven slash?

Oh, I'm sure. Lithuania is so pliable, pairing-wise. It's because he's such a sweetheart.

20) Does anyone on your friends list read Three het?

XD Probably. US/UK genbens seem more popular than ever right now. (Admittedly, England makes an amazing girl.)

21) Does anyone on your friends list write or draw Eleven?

abarero  did. Glasses kink. It was wonderful.</span>

22) Would you write Two/Four/Five?

America/Finland/Seychelles? It's hard to say. While I love crack, and threesomes are great fun, I support all three of these nations with one other character hardcore. And since it's hardcore, I really can't see me doing it, no.

23) What might Ten scream at a moment of great passion?

"Aah, Italien!"

24) When was the last time you read a fic about Five?

About a month ago? In the kink meme there was an America/England/Seychelles fic.

25) What is Six's super-secret kink?

Even with all of her sadistic tendancies, she's actually a masochist.

26) Would Eleven shag Nine? Drunk or sober?

No-- too shy.

27) If Three and Seven get together, who tops?

THAT'S SO HARD. England's almost always the uke, but Lithuania is so compliant and considerate... okay, yeah, England would top.

28) "One and Nine are in a happy relationship until Nine suddenly runs off with Four. One, broken-hearted, has a hot one-night stand with Eleven and a brief unhappy affair with Twelve, then follows the wise advice of Five and finds true love with Two." What title would you give this fic?

Now, with names:

"Sweden and Austria are in a happy relationship until Austria suddenly runs off with Finland. One, broken-hearted, has a hot one-night stand with Poland and a brief unhappy affair with China, then follows the wise advice of Seychelles and finds true love with America."

"If Sweden had Never Met Finland... but Austria Had"
"Completely Improbable"
"Austria's Biggest Mistake"
"Crack Overload"

29) How would you feel if Seven/Eight was canon?

Well, Lithuania does like long-haired beauties...

completely misleading OVA

DEPRESSED FACE IS DEPRESSED. I finished the entire Sukisyo animated series in one day. The manga is no where near as attractive, but I'll give it a go here soon.

I loved it sooo much. The characters were delightful, and the tiny snippets of smut... I have to say, my favorite pair is Shinichirou/Nanami. The characters individually are absolute gems (Nanami, who is completely lacking in all masculinity, and Shinichirou, the borderline tsundere), but together they make canon amazingness. Despite the misleading OVA (it should have totally continued after! You can't stop a series at the hot springs, gosh darn it!), the sexy little bits of the two made it just perfect.

Actually... now that I think about it, I'm going to go watch that again right now.

Baltimore weather, you moody jerk

Oh my.

So. I won't go into detail that no one cares for, but I had a wonderful week in Massachusetts. We didn't end up going to NY because my two-year-old monster brother wouldn't have been able to handle all the excitement. We went all over MA, though, which was great. Salem is amazing. Amazing. And I think I may have seen a Hetalia fangirl walking the streets. (Gothic lolita dress + bag with multiple nation flag pins = Hetalia conclusion? idk)

At this very moment I should be driving from Kansas City back to Columbia, but our Baltimore flight was canceled, so I'm staying in a Rhode Island Comfort Inn until Monday. Internet in 30 minute intervals. Joy.

I'm.... definitely waiting to go through my friend updates until Tuesday. So I can, you know, have an entire day to devote to it.

So! I'm almost back. Here's to hoping I don't perish on any flight back home. And thank you all for your kind well-wishes. I missed you guys, too. =}
